Bush poet Will Ogilvie (1869-1963) was greatly admired by W.R.F. (Bill) Bolton, the founder of the Lionel Lindsay Gallery and Library Collection. Bolton collected many of Ogilvie’s publications and corresponded with the poet whilst he was establishing the Lindsay Collection.

This exhibition commemorates both the 150th anniversary of Ogilvie’s birth and the 60th anniversary of the Lindsay Collection.

Its centrepiece is an oil painting that Bolton commissioned from an artist prominent in the 1950s, Ivor Hele: “And they cheered him out to the Westward in the last of the falling light” (1961), based on Ogilvie’s “How the Fire Queen crossed the swamp” (1896). Other displays are by Robert Johnson, George Lambert and Lionel Lindsay.

Exhibition on display : 27 July - 20 October 2019.
