Growing up in the Australian bush, Foxton’s physical and spiritual connection with the land has provided her with a deep reverence for the natural environment. This connection inspires her work and is now felt as a deep sense of loss when she witnesses environmental decline. Her paintings depict denuded and regenerated landscapes that explore the beauty, fragility and resilience of the Australian environment so frequently devasted by drought, fire and floods.
By applying layers, scraping back and reapplying paint, she uncovers layers and elements of the landscapes to create a process of discovery for both herself and for viewers. Her works evolve during this process and reflect the deep layers of humans’ relationship with the landscape, both in harmony and in conflict with nature.
