The Toowoomba Arts Footprint is excited to welcome the second of three artists who were successful in their application for a $20,000 Artist in Residence opportunity.Felicity Chapman is a proud Wiradjuri woman living on Ngaro country (Airlie Beach) with her husband and youngest of 3 boys. Her project “Deadly Weavers” aims to re-vitalise and preserve our ancient cultural knowledge, shining a light on the treasured tradition of Aboriginal weaving. The idea for Felicity’s project was born from a devastating brain-bleed she suffered in 2017, leaving her with a disability and changing her life forever. Ever the optimist, Felicity says in the end the brain bleed was a gift, as she used her recovery time to research her indigenous heritage, having learned a few years prior that she was a child of the stolen generation. Felicity now travels across Queensland delivering visual storytelling and weaving workshops to schools and communities, keeping her own heritage alive.During her residency, Felicity will spend time at Cobb+Co Museum, The Empire Theatre, USQ and The Engine Room Café teaching workshops and demonstrating her weaving. Check the Toowoomba Arts Footprint Facebook page for details on dates and locations.
